Which is the best massage? Whether it is a Thai massage or Swedish massage. This is the question that comes to your mind when you plan to take a massage. So here’s a comparative study based on my personal experience.

I have taken countless massage sessions of both Thai and Swedish. If I had to tell this which is the best massage then it would be a little tricky. The reason being both of them are unique. Also, both of them differ in techniques, application and much more.

Let’s see then.

Best Massage: Thai vs Swedish

There are several types of massage therapy available to relax. Deep tissue, hot stone, trigger point, and chair massage are a few to name. What kind of massage you want depends on your choice and requirements.

What is a Swedish Massage?

The purpose of Swedish massage is to remove the tensions and reinforce muscles and joints. Its invigorating, relaxing, and promotes blood and lymphatic circulation. However, it also eliminates a large number of toxins, as well as helping the body regain its natural balance.

This type of spas is the most common to relax both the body and the mind. It is characterized by the fact that a large part of the movements carried out by the professional are carried out in the direction of the heart, and joints are also used passively and actively to improve the patient’s well-being.

Is Swedish the Best Massage?

Swedish is well-known as a soft massage. Moreover, it is good if you are taking it for the first time. In short, if you are starting with a body spa then you should go for Swedish.

It gives you a feel and a sense of relaxation at the same time. A typical Swedish spa is offered in most clinics, gyms, spas, and wellness centres.

Here using lotion or oil, the therapists typically begin with broad general strokes. And then transition to specific strokes to address problem areas.

There are 5 Basic Strokes in Swedish Body Spa Therapy

  1. Long Smooth Strokes
  2. Kneading, Rolling, & lifting
  3. Small Circular Movements
  4. Percussion
  5. Rocking & Shaking Movements

To put it straight, a Swedish spa is popular and best for body relaxation. Besides, it can be better than a full body Thai spa sometimes.

But Why?

Because it is an alternative to deep tissue massage therapy. If you are the first time to plan for a massage or you have some kind of body pain then you must try Swedish massage. If stats are to be believed Swedish body spa is quite demanding in various spa centres in Surat city.

Swedish massage is good for:

Stress, back pain, tensions, poor circulation, and relaxation. All these common evils today can be remedied with a good Swedish massage. The reason being it is one of the most classic and effective therapeutic massages.

Is Thai the Best Massage?

Relaxation in a typical Thai style stimulates the acupressure points connected to the energy line. Here the technique of blocking blood flow is used. The therapist first blocks the blood flow and then release it after 30 seconds through the application of sustained pressure.

Thai massage works on your entire body. The masseuse uses every part of his/her body hands, knees, legs, and feet to not only stretch you but also apply pressure on your muscles and loosen your joints.

Thai is more energizing than other forms of massage.

It is like a form of Yoga. This type of massage can reduce muscle spasticity and back pain. Moreover, it is useful in treating balance problems and migraine symptoms.

There’s another perspective of Thai massage. It’s (yoga) a bodywork treatment that combines the application of acupressure and assisted yoga postures and is performed on a mat on the floor. The masseuse uses the weight of the body to exert deep but rhythmic pressure on the muscle tissue.

And, if you wish, you can even walk on it. It is called ‘Nuat boran’ which means ‘traditional massage’. This is a combination of techniques from India, China, and Southeast Asia, based on Ayurvedic principles.

While the sessions usually last two hours, with the simplified style that is used in Europe they can be shorter including meditation and mantras, or without them. No oils or lotions are used and you must remain dressed, while the masseuse stretches, compresses and moves the limbs, unlike the Swedish massage, where it rubs.

This happens during a Thai massage.

All you have to do is relax while the masseur works with your feet or hands, always maintaining some form of contact. The therapist will make the joints creak, pulling the toes and hands with fast and firm movements.

It will also mobilize your joints in different positions, which do not require a particular degree of flexibility and, using the force of gravity, will stretch the main muscles of the legs and back.

Once you have finished aside, it will ask you to turn. Try not to snore if you fall asleep!

Things You Should Know While Taking a Body Spa

  • It is preferable to wear loose clothing, to be comfortable and without movement restrictions.
  • You can also propose to stay in underwear, to work the body more directly.
  • If you do not feel comfortable, you should say so. The western and eastern customs are different.
  • If you feel shame, you can even try the “real style”, created especially for dignitaries. Here, the pressure is applied in areas that are considered to be touched by mere mortals, according to strict codes of conduct.
  • The approach resembles that of reflexology, with the stimulation of flow along “sen lines” corresponding to tendons, ligaments, nerves and blood vessels.
  • All types of massage can relieve sore muscles, help relax and improve mood.

Wrapping Up

Thai style, in particular, can relieve temporary pain, increase circulation and provide a general sense of well-being.

This ancient Buddhist treatment was taught for centuries at the Thai Medicine and Massage Center.

In my opinion, both massages do an awesome job. Each has its benefits. I like the Thai body spa since it has lots of benefits. However, my opinion may differ from others.
